Is Benadryl Being Used To Help With Prurigo?

OTC allergy meds can work temporarily - the first year I got Prurigo I was popping Benedryl, along with all the other allergy meds to try to control the itch, they worked for a while, and now they don't work at all for me, I believe they blew out my liver and I started managing the symptoms much better after a 30 day liver detox. That helped to reset my system, plus stopped eating gluten, sugar and much less dairy which also helped. They are pushing Dupixent on me now, and I'm looking for feedback from patients who have been on Dupixent a while to hear how it's working for them.

As far as other medical conditions related to PN: I've been asking and looking for more info on that myself-the only condition I can find correlated is handling stress, but that is so vague. I feel it's somehow related to what we are eating also, my PN came on in 2018 following a month of drinking a lot of kombucha. I think I messed up my gut microbiome ( plus I had neglected my diet and was eating bad), and my PN began. I've learned since that most skin issues are related to gut imbalance and leaky gut syndrome. There's lots of information on leaky gut online and on YouTube by Integrative doctors which your dermatologist will likely know nothing about. You will likely want to rethink your diet after looking into this - our western diet us very bad for our gut. Christina, even tho you think Dupixent is working, I would seriously advise you look into doing a dietary heavy metals detox, plus changing your diet to avoiding gluten, dairy and sugar. No one treatment is going to heal your PN. I have often been thankful PN didn't break out on my face and I can hide my arms and legs under long sleeves at least half the year. I really feel for you but you have to be willing to change your diet and do a lot more than just Dupixent (I'm having many side effects from Dupixent so I will discontinue using it - you know it's a biologic which lowers your immune system and causes cancer? my husband got cancer from biologics - I'm learning to be suspicious of the "new drugs" that our medicare/insurance companies are covering. There are no "clinical trials/double blind studies" on Dupixent working for PN - we are the clinical trial!

That's a different drug than Benadryl, it is an anti-anxiety usually RX'd to help one sleep. It's similar to Trazadone, which I take, Hydroxozine doesn't work on me.

I don't want to confuse you Burt: Hydroxizine is prescribed for anxiety which helps many people sleep more soundly at night. Benedryl is an allergy medication to be used mostly during the day to control itching, so completely different reasons. I personally find Trazadone works as an anti-anxiety better for me, but there are a handful of RX's and I'm sure others find one that works best for them, but for me, Hydroxizine actually kept me up at night and didn't help me sleep well at all but it's used by many people.

I use prescription Hydroxizine instead.
