So The Dupixent Is Doing A Great Job But Will I Have To Take It For The Rest Of My Life?
I don't think it's the type of condition that goes into remission. I think it's more of a wax and wane type of disease where it is relatively quiet and then flares. The term remission is typically associated with diseases such as cancer. In treating cancer, the goal is to get rid of abnormal cells. So the person is treated with an appropriate treatment and monitored for the death of abnormal cells. After treatment is completed, the person is monitored for the reappearance of abnormal cells. After an extended period of time with no reoccurrence, the person is considered to be in remission. In my case, the initial period was 5:years of intense monitoring followed by less intense of continued monitoring up to 10 years. Autoimmune conditions are different.
I have heard there is no end date on taking it. If it works for you, and you're taking it, how would you know it's in remission?
Cancer can go into remission but is not necessarily cured. Remission for 5 years signifies cured, yet it can return again. I believe I had a long remission at one point, but PN was unknown so there was not a diagnosis. However what I had for 10 years went away for fifteen years, and then returned a few years ago, is exactly the same thing and now they have a name for it, PN.
I guess in some cases it does go into remission. I hope for everyone!
That makes total sense. It isn't cure able so how could it find remission.
