Shaving Legs?

A MyPrurigoTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
New York, NY

I have nodules and welts only on my calves. I'm hesitant to try shaving because I don't want to add razor burn to the mix. I also have an electric shaver AND a nickel allergy. Any ideas? Thanks.

I also treat the nodules with Clobetasol ointment 0.05%. as soon as I feel itchy and see a little red bump. Cuts them off before they develop.

I have gotten nodules on my calves too. I use sensitive skin shaving cream and a regular razor. No issues so far.

Shaving with prurigo nodularis on your calves can be tricky, especially with a nickel allergy. Here are some tips to consider:

- Avoid Scratching: Scratching can worsen the condition and lead to more nodules and infection.
- Use a Nickel-Free Razor: Since you have a nickel allergy, ensure your razor is nickel-free to avoid allergic reactions.
- Electric Shaver: If your electric shaver is nickel-free, it might be a gentler option.
- Moisturize: Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and reduce irritation.
- Cold Compression: Use an ice pack or cold, wet cloth on the affected area for 5-10 minutes to reduce itching before shaving.

Always test any new product on a small area first to ensure it doesn't irritate your skin.

I shave, not as much as I used to, but when there are lesions or nodules, I steer clear of them. As the AI Bot stated, make sure your razor is nickel free. I make sure to hydrate skin after with good lotion, sometimes with oils, but then again, careful of the nodules/lesions. Best of luck!
