My Dermatologist Wants Me To Go See A Pain Management Doctor. Said I Was In Pain Because This Is A Nerve Related Issue. What Do You Think?

I am seriously considering changing doctors too. I just came back from the ER, couldn't handle the pain. The sores under my arm are infected. She kept saying no and wouldn't give me an antibiotic. She is a nurse practioner. I am not happy. I know when something is infected, throbbing horrible pain. What would you do?

Thanks! I am so skeptical of all those medications.

I have been going to a pain clinic for my current and long suffering digestive issues. They have been trying a lot of things, including options, which I disliked immensely. I am now on Lyrica, which seems to have helped a little with my body wide pain, including PN. Be careful who you go to, as too many of them go right to the "big guns", meaning strong meds that might help you, but have troubling side effects. I would definitely investigate this type of care! 😊

I am going to be 82 next month. I can't swallow more pills, the stomach says no. No point in adding another doctor to the list!

I would think pain management might help, but if it is from PN lesions, it could get complicated quick. Arnie is so right, be careful of pain meds or treatments, something that makes you feel nothing could be extremely harmful in many ways.
As to the nerve related, yes, they know it involves the nerves, whether all Drs acknowledge that or not. Many of us already had nerve issues, and PN seems to have jumped on the band-wagon, as the saying goes.
Try putting some clove powder on there, that helped me this summer with nodules that were spidering and causing nerve pain. Doesn't hurt to try.

At 82 pain management drugs will not help you a lot. Plus they may cause you to not be safe. You will be more prone to falls.
