Hi Tiffany, treating an underlying condition like H. pylori can sometimes help improve prurigo nodularis (PN) symptoms, but it doesn’t guarantee that PN will go away entirely. PN is a chronic condition, and while addressing triggers or related conditions can reduce symptoms, PN may persist or require ongoing treatment. Stay Show Full Answer

Okay, Did the dermatologist tell you how or what situation to use each ointment? Mupiricin is an antibiotic ointment to combat infection of the lesions. Clobetesol and Trimincilone are steroid ointments with Clobetesol being stronger than Trimincilone. They are used for itching and shrinking the nodules. There is a topical prescription for the scalp: Derma Smooth. I typically use the ointment for the skin and the Derma Smooth for my scalp.

Tiffany, the dermatologist is correct that scratching should be avoided. What have they recommended about the itching? When I begin feeling itchy, I apply the prescription ointment/cream to the itchy spot. What I have found is either a reduction of the itching or an inhibition of the development of a nodule(the nodules being smaller). I follow the directions for the prescription until the nodules exhibits healing. It does require vigilance. Hope it works for you

H. Pylori is a bacteria associated with stomach issues. I have not heard of an a association between it and PN. PN, it has been thought to be associated with the immune system. H. Pylori usually requires antibiotic therapy. For a definitive answer, please ask the treating physicians.
