Any Tips To Stop Yourself From Picking?

A MyPrurigoTeam Member asked a question 💭

Basically I’m struggling to stop picking the nodules. It’s not fun because it’s on my neck and face. It seems to bother everyone else in my life too when I pick and itch. I can’t seem to stop. And I’m trying but people keep telling me to stop and say unhelpful words.

Try lidocaine wound GEL from Amazon, this has really helped me to stop itching.

Thank you! I am def going to use that advice! I also took your advice and distracted myself! I am putting a bandaid on some of the more prominent ones that have been causing the most complaints from others and honestly myself. It doesn’t look great on my face but it does remind me to stop picking!
Thank you for understanding. This was my first post here and I was a bit nervous about it. But honestly makes me feel a lot better knowing I’m not alone!

To stop picking is one of the hardest things to do. First of all.you have to realize picking can make everything worse and cause infections. Whatever you do DON'T USE TWEEZERS. Try not to pick and scratch in front of anyone. Only do it when you're alone. The thing is a certain amount of picking is actually necessary. With PN there is an overgrowth of skin that traps all kinds of debris in our skin. PN starts in the hair follicles so ingrown hairs and multiple hairs in one pores are common and it's ok to remove them when you see them. All the PNs seem to connect to each other through tunnels they make under the skin. When these tunnels get blocked infection is soon to follow. Try to clear away debris without damaging the tissue. You have to keep telling yourself I'm not going to pick because I want to heal. Try wearing long pants and long sleeves. Watch movies to distract yourself. Or anything that works for you. I only clear away debris and dead skin during face washing, shower time or applying cream time. The haters will never understand. Just do what you have to do behind closed doors but dont pick just clean. Take it one day at a time. I take vistiril and gabapentin that helps with the itch. Corticosteroid cream. And I'm on Dupixent 16 weeks almost. I'm rooting for you. If you need anything I'm here we are all here.

I know what you mean. People just don't understand if they haven't suffered from it.

Yes they do but maybe try to put yourself in their shoes we as the pickers will probably say the same thing to them
