I had started 3 times but stopped each time when my skin became more ichy and developed/enhanced my rash. The photo treatment were initially 30 sec slowly increased to 58 sec. The later cycles started 8 sec increasing to 20+ sec. I think the intensity my be too high but they said it cannot be controlled.

Phototherapy can be helpful for some people with prurigo nodularis, but it has its limitations. Here are some key points:

- Effectiveness: Phototherapy primarily uses UVB rays, which can help ease intense itchiness and other symptoms.
- Limitations: It requires frequent visits to a phototherapy unit (two or three times a week) and can take six to eight weeks to show effects. Relief is often incomplete.
- Risks: Natural sunlight and tanning beds, which emit mostly UVA rays, are risky and increase the chance of skin cancer and skin aging. Supervised light treatment in a controlled healthcare setting is recommended.
