Does Anyone Have Healing & Recurring Nodularis?

A MyPrurigoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Palm City, FL

I had my first, bad breakout about 18 months ago. After a few months, I healed, leaving scars, of course. I thought I was extremely lucky and it was gone. UNTIL I started with new breakouts this month. I'm wondering if something might trigger an outbreak, but can't figure it out. Anyone else??

Hi Jan! My experience with PN is that it does wax and wane. Mine has been triggered by an insect bite that developed into PN occuring with the insect bite. My primary care physician first identified a coexisting skin condition which upon biopsy was determined to be PN. I found out that the best but hardest approach is to leave the nodules alone except for topical medications if needed and then daily moisturizers. Scratching them or manipulating them in any way made them worse. Triggers could be heat, stress, bug bites, foods, anything could be someone's trigger.

Hi Carla! I don't know if you have tried any of the medications I use for my scalp. I've used a variety of topical that didn't work. Right now, I'm using Derma Smooth and Head and Shoulders Bare. PN on the scalp is very frustrating because I can't see the nodules; I can only feel them. If I feel itchy, I take 50 mg of Benadryl. The dermatologist told me the scratching them and manipulating them will cause them to spread so I leave them alone. She also said scratching and manipulating them could possibly lead to damage to the hair follicle and hair loss so that scares me. It really is frustrating especially since there's not a one treatment that works for everyone.

If you use clove powder as a nerve blocker, you can remove the skin at the base, and the nodule won't be able to protect itself, and act like a cut, and dissappear.
Use a liquid bandage, and put a pinch of clove powder on top.

So true... Could be the weather, humidity, something you ate, or even stress can trigger it. PN is not nice and doesn't follow rules.
